Unity Trust Bank supported this week’s Mental Health Awareness Week, May 12-18, with a programme of events focussed on improving people’s wellbeing.
Championed by the Mental Health Foundation, this year’s theme of ‘Community’ promotes the importance of having strong connections with people and communities that offer a sense of belonging, safety and support.
Unity’s activities were organised by the bank’s employee-led Health, Wellbeing and Welfare pillar and included inspiring talks, educational sessions and a range of activities.
Unity’s CEO, Colin Fyfe, a strong supporter of mental health awareness and ex-chair of Anxiety UK, led a ‘Time to Talk’ open forum at Unity’s Birmingham HQ in Brindleyplace for staff to share experiences and ask questions.
Life coach Dee Bahia offered holistic mindset coaching and discussed the benefits of community, ways to connect and the impact on physical and mental health.
Colleagues were encouraged to ‘Wear it Green’ in recognition of the importance of good mental health and many took part in lunchtime walks, seed planting and even a bit of DIY to decorate Unity HQ’s wellbeing room.
Unity also launched a new Health Wellbeing and Welfare (HWW) Hub, providing resources to support staff to look after their overall wellbeing, and everyone received a wellbeing care bag containing nutritional goodies.
Natalie Wright, Enterprise Risk Manager and one of the leaders of Unity’s Health, Wellbeing and Welfare pillar, said: “This week was an opportunity for our own Unity community to connect, support each other and prioritise our wellbeing in line with this year’s theme.
“The activities we organised were aimed at encouraging conversation and reminding us all to take care of our mental health.”
Unity & Me has five employee-led pillars – Health, Wellbeing & Welfare; Equality, Diversity & Inclusion; Community Growth; Grants & Donations and Green.
Each pillar provides vibrant, inclusive and engaging experiences to support Unity’s commitment to create a better society.
Colin Fyfe said: “Congratulations to our Health, Wellbeing and Welfare team for organising such an interesting week of activities. They reinforced how important it is for us all to take a step back and consider our mental health.
“I’m incredibly proud of all of the bank’s Unity & Me pillars. The effort and energy colleagues put in to enhance our employee experience and empower people to make a positive difference is phenomenal and perfectly aligns with our ethos as a social impact bank.”
